As a big Weather Report fan starting back in '79 and trombone player in my college jazz band, the "Morning Dance" album was something totally fresh and original when it came to similar fusing of jazz improv with a melodically pop sensibility. Even Miles Davis admitted what he was doing in the '60's was getting old.Unfortunately the group Spyro Gyra pulled a "Boston" type fluke hit album as if a magic muse visited then jumped shipped for the rest of their career. "Morning Dance" is the only album I like. Not one stinker on it.However, compared to the cassette I had in '79 I've had a problem with its remastering for CD (as well as '70's Weather Report CD's) or maybe even the way it was recorded because the kick & snare drum hits are so thin and harshly punchy that I can't play it loud. The first CD (same AMH-8008-2 ID number printed on the disc) I bought sometime in the mid to late '90's had very little snare & bass drum fullness (toy drum set sound) and was really uncomfortable to listen to in my car to hear at loud enough levels above road roar. I rarely played it.Now with the internet and this album's Amazon mp3 samples having more fullness in the bass but still a bit punchy, I knew it had been remastered again but which CD to buy on Amazon that would have this better version was impossible to determine. There are several Amazon pages of this album with different ASIN numbers for sale that don't say Amherst Records label. So here's a clue which to get. Buy a new CD from a reputable online vendor that says "Factory sealed straight from the studios". Just saying shipped from the US is not enough because there are imports labeled "Made In Canada" (my first '90's CD version without bass) I bought in the US before I had access to the internet.I bought the newer "straight from the studios" version from Movie-Mars and it sounds like the Amazon mp3 samples with the fuller bass. On the back of the CD case it says "Made & Printed In The USA". (See posted photo) There are so many used versions including the original 1984 MCA first CD pressing, now a "Collectors" item (don't know what that means), that it's impossible to know which because both CD case cover/back look the same from the outside. You'ld have to look on the CD disc which my newer version has "© 1979, 2016 Amherst Records". My thin sounding '90's bought "Made In Canada" version has only "© 1979 Amherst Records".Check out YouTube for the sound differences between the two. It's NOT SUBTLE!"Song For Lorraine" really benefits from a fatter bass beat and is the best sounding out of the nine.
